Home Health Aide Certification Program

Home Health Aide Certification Program

CAMTECH School of Health Sciences and Technology

Program goal

To train students to competently render hands-on personal care to patients primarily in their homes.

Program description

Home health aides make a remarkable difference in the lives of the sick, disabled and elderly. By assisting with personal tasks such as dressing and bathing, and helping to keep homes safe and clean, they allow those who would otherwise need a higher level of care in a hospital setting the opportunity to live on their own. They also arrange leisure activities and transportation for clients so that they can remain engaged in their communities. Students will learn how to provide incidental health teaching to clients and family regarding care administered; the reporting process- how to relate pertinent information to the appropriate authorities; some states allow home health aides to administer medication or check vital signs under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner and in some cases the patient’s home may be equipped with some basic medical equipment and the home health aide would, under supervision, learn how to monitor the equipment.
